Then there was Reuters. Relying on the hopefully credible
information found at www.zsaru.hu, they have just what we need:
a story that, again, is short on actual news but long on
heart–warming, stomach–churning excellence. Apparently, see, a
bunch of Hungarian builders came across a massive, 300 litre
barrel while they were renovating a house recently. The barrel, it
turns out, was full of rum. The builders, it turns out, drank said
rum. The rum, it turns out, had a “special” taste that was so
yummy the builders drank it to the last drop. But once the rum
was done, the barrel, it turns out, wasn’t empty—it was still heavy, even though the sweet, sweet rum was gone. So the builders tipped the barrel over and turned out the naked, pickled corpse of a man who’d been marinating in the rum for two decades. Says the Reuters article: the guy’s wife put his corpse in there to get it back from Jamaica without having to pay money or do any paper work, then for some reason just left it there. Says me: that story sure sounds plausible and newsworthy, and not at
all like the start of a new urban legend or something.
